What IS Yoga Therapy?

Many people first learn about yoga through its physical practices, but a common misconception is that the discipline is all about stretching or movement. In fact, yoga therapy can help people who can’t move at all, as well as active individuals!”

What to Expect in Your First Yoga Therapy Session:

During, or before, your first session, a detailed assessment form will be filled out and discussed with your Yoga Therapist. Your YT will want to hear about you, your story, your challenges, beliefs, pain level, and environmental conditions. Then together, you and your therapist set a clear goal for your session(s). Based on the assessments and conversations, you will be given an individualized home practiced aimed at easing your symptoms or to bring your body back into balance.

Some Therapies That May Be Given:

  • Lifestyle changes
  • Exercise: aerobic and/or yoga asanas
  • Relaxation: restorative asanas
  • Breathing techniques
  • Journaling and/or Bible study
  • Meditation
